New and Different The Christian life is New, yes, definitely. It is different in one sense, yet there is also the constant war between sin and the New Life, between the flesh and the Spirit, in us. I grope toward what St. Paul says in *Romans* 7:22-23:
"For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." | | Monday, February 6th, 2006 | | 8:13 am |
Holy Bible http://av1611.com/kjbp/kjv-bible-text/index.htmlThat's the site I like to use. I've been straying around in worldly stuff recently, and just after the Super Bowl is as good a time as any to remember to walk in the Spirit. One benefit I suppose of these periods is that I am brought back to how uncertain our human wit and judgment is. I watched half of the Super Bowl last night, and remembered how weak a football analyst I am. I thought there'd be a lot of field goals because the kickers were good and the defenses were good against the run. So maybe the drives would slow down, once inside the 20? However, there was only one field goal. | | Sunday, February 5th, 2006 | | 3:38 pm |
A Dirty Book! I was recently on the phone with the library system. It turns out they didn't like the condition of a book I returned. They just had an inapt way of putting it, that the librarian and I thought was funny.
"Why," I asked, are you charging me for a lost book? I returned Pynchon's *Mason & Dixon* some time ago!" "Yes," came the confident answer from the library hand, "but we are not charging you for a lost book. We are charging you for returning a DIRTY BOOK." |
